The Vaginal Infection test determines the pH of vaginal swab specimens to aid in the diagnosis of common vaginal infections including bacterial vaginosis (BV). A healthy vagina has a slightly acidic pH level – between 3.8 to 4.5 – which maintains a balance between the good and bad bacteria present in the vagina. A change in this pH can be an indication that you may be suffering from BV. Alternatively, symptoms such as vaginal itching/burning or a thick, white discharge could be a sign of a thrush infection.

Risk of vaginal infection can be increased if you are sexually active, use vaginal hygiene products, are taking antibiotics or have a health condition that affects your immune system. Vaginal infections can be very risky for pregnant women and present a danger to both mother and foetus. You can reduce your chances of vaginal infection and alleviate the symptoms by doing the following:

  • Use only water and plain soap to wash your genital area.
  • Wear loose, cotton underwear.
  • Avoid vaginal deodorants, washes or douches.
  • Have showers instead of baths.

Iron Deficiency FAQs

Here's what you need to know

How can a vaginal infection impact the skin?

Vaginal infections can significantly affect overall skin health and comfort. Disruptions to the natural microbiome can trigger inflammation and sensitivity, which may impact the body’s ability to maintain healthy skin function. This can lead to increased sensitivity, irritation, and a compromised skin barrier.

Clients may also experience dryness and slower healing—meaning treatments may not deliver optimal results until the underlying imbalance is properly addressed.

Why should I offer rapid vaginal health testing as part of my service?

Adding rapid vaginal health testing allows you to go beyond surface-level treatments and identify underlying factors affecting your client’s results. It positions you as a results-driven, holistic practitioner, helping you tailor treatments more effectively and build greater trust with clients.

It also creates opportunities for more personalised treatment plans and follow-up services.

How quickly can I see results from a rapid test?

Rapid testing provides results within minutes, allowing you to have an immediate, informed conversation with your client during the same appointment. This means you can adapt treatments on the spot, recommend next steps, or refer appropriately—making the consultation far more efficient and impactful.

What are the benefits for clients of having a rapid vaginal health test?

Clients gain immediate insight into a potential root cause of issues like fatigue, hair thinning, or poor skin quality. With quick results, they can take action sooner—whether that’s adjusting nutrition, seeking medical advice, or modifying their treatment plan. This leads to better overall outcomes and a more informed, proactive approach to their health and skin.

  • Elevate Your Consultations

Rapid testing enables more meaningful, insight-led consultations. Instead of guessing, you can identify potential underlying causes.

    • A client with dull skin and fatigue → test for iron or thyroid function
    • Persistent acne or skin changes → explore hormonal indicators
    • Slow healing → investigate underlying deficiencies

This positions you as a holistic practitioner, not just a treatment provider.

  • Improve Treatment Planning & Safetly

    Better data = better decisions.

    Rapid tests can help:

    • Identify when treatments should be delayed
    • Guide treatment selection
    • Optimise timing based on hormonal or health factors
    • Reduce risk and improve outcomes

This strengthens your clinical responsibility and builds trust with your clients.

  • Unlock New Revenue Stream

This is where it becomes commercially powerful.

Rapid tests can be introduced as:

    • Paid consultation add-ons
    • Wellness or skin health packages
    • Standalone retail products
    • Pre-treatment screening services

You’re not just adding value, you’re creating a scalable, high-margin revenue stream alongside your core treatments.
