What is Bio-Spicule Therapy?

iD CLINICA™ Bio-Spicule Therapy uses sponge spicules - tiny, naturally occurring structures extracted from freshwater sponges. These spicules are completely free from chemicals, acids, and abrasive ingredients that could harm the skin, making this treatment a safe, sustainable option for many skin types.

How Does It Work?

When the sponge spicules are massaged into the skin, they create micro-channels that separate the epidermal layers and trigger the skin’s natural healing process. This stimulates collagen production, cell turnover, and skin regeneration - similar to the effects of microneedling, but without the need for a device.

These micro-channels also allow deeper penetration of active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, enhancing the effectiveness of serums, creams, and masks used in your skincare routine.

Who Can Benefit from Bio-Spicule Therapy?

This treatment is generally suitable for most skin types. It is particularly beneficial for ageing or dull skin, skin with hyperpigmentation or dark spots, oily or acne-prone skin, and skin with uneven texture or visible pores. Clients with sensitive skin should proceed with caution, as some may experience mild irritation.

What to Expect During and After Treatment

During the treatment, clients typically experience a prickling or tingling sensation as the sponge spicules are massaged into the skin. While the sensation is noticeable, it is not usually considered painful. The spicules naturally break down within the skin over approximately 72 hours, during which time the skin may feel sensitive to the touch. In the days following treatment, it is common to experience mild peeling or dryness. Visible improvements in skin texture and tone generally appear within seven days. Treatments can be repeated every 14 days to maintain results. The procedure takes around 30 minutes and does not require the use of anaesthetic. Post-treatment, clients should cleanse the skin using only warm water for seven days. Makeup can typically be applied from day two.

Bio-Spicule Therapy is not suitable for individuals who are pregnant, those with skin cancer, broken skin, or active cold sores.
